What Do the Results Mean?
Every field in our phone number lookup has a specific meaning. This guide explains each one clearly so you can understand exactly what you're seeing.
International Format
How the number is written for international dialing
The internationally standardised way to write the number including the calling code and spaces/hyphens as the country uses them. Example: +91 98765 43210. This is the format recommended by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).
National Format
How locals write the number without the country code
The domestic format used within the country. It omits the country calling code and typically matches how the number is dialled locally. Example: 098765 43210 (India) or (212) 555-0100 (USA).
E.164 Format
The machine-readable international standard format
E.164 is an ITU-T standard for the international public telecommunication numbering plan. It consists of a + followed by the country code and subscriber number, with no spaces or punctuation. Example: +919876543210. This is what APIs and VoIP systems use internally.
Country Code
The numeric prefix that identifies the country
Also called a "calling code" or "IDD prefix," this is the number you dial after the international exit code (e.g. 00 or +) to reach a given country. Examples: 1 (USA/Canada), 44 (UK), 91 (India).
Line Type
Whether the number is mobile, landline, VoIP, etc.
The type of phone line the number belongs to. Common values include: Mobile (a cellular/SIM-based number), Fixed Line (traditional landline), VoIP (internet-based phone service), Toll-Free, Premium Rate, and Unknown. Not all numbers can be classified.
Carrier
The telecom operator that originally issued the number
The mobile network operator (MNO) or telecom provider that originally issued this number range. Due to number portability, this may not reflect the current carrier if the subscriber has ported their number to a different network. Carrier data is not always available and depends on our data providers.
Timezone
The estimated timezone associated with the number's region
An estimated timezone based on the number's country and area code. For countries that span multiple timezones (e.g. USA, Russia, Australia), the timezone reflects the region associated with the area code, not necessarily the subscriber's current location. Shown in IANA format (e.g. Asia/Kolkata, America/New_York).
Location
The geographic region linked to the number's prefix
A general geographic location (state, city, or region) historically associated with the number prefix based on telecom registration data. This reflects the registration region of the number range, not the real-time physical location of the phone or its owner. We never track GPS location or reveal private addresses.
