Area Codes by Country

What Are Area Codes?

An area code (also called a numbering plan area code or NPA) is a prefix within a country's national numbering plan that identifies a geographic region or administrative zone. Area codes are used for routing calls within a country and are typically dialled before the subscriber number. In some countries (e.g. USA), they are mandatory even for local calls. Not all countries use geographic area codes — some assign number ranges nationally.
